Welcome to McNally Jackson, full name McNally Jackson Independent Bookseller, but we’re on a first name basis now. This is one of my favorite places in New York City and of course, my very favorite bookstore.
A few blocks into SoHo on the tree-lined streets of Mulberry and Prince you might happen to notice a metal siding below a brick apartment complex on the corner of the block. The siding continues for about half the block, stopping before it hits whatever trendy new restaurant is on the other corner. But don’t go that far, turn back, find the glass door in the metal siding and step inside.
You can tell from the moment you walk inside that this is place you want to be. The air smells like coffee and new-books, aaaaahhh. There’s good vibes, interesting people, a well-curated selection of magazines and books, a café with plenty of seating, and a stationery selection that dreams are made of.
This is one of my favorite places to come by myself or with w friend. If you’re hankering for something new to read check out their front fiction and non-fiction tables or their amazing selection of magazines. They have everything from fashion to literary journals. But if you have the time to browse around then by all means do! Personally, I always like to have a look through the design and art books, cookbooks, European literature, and their New York City section. If I’m having a particularly lazy day I’ll sit with a couple of magazines and a cappuccino in their café or spread out on one of the big reading tables downstairs.
I love McNally Jackson for their amazing selection of reading material and stationery, their friendly and helpful service, and the community atmosphere. In a city that can feel big and scary sometimes I always feel right at home in McNally Jackson.
